Dorothy and William’s winter wedding at the John Marshall Ballrooms was a joyous and memorable soiree. Featuring many wonderful Richmond vendors including the KOS Band, this was a swinging night to remember.
This was our first time photographing a winter wedding at the John Marshall Ballrooms, and it did not disappoint. The ballroom where Dorothy and William’s ceremony was held was spacious and bright, complemented by ornate chandeliers and framing windows. The venue has ample space for guests to socialize during cocktail hour, before moving into the reception ballroom, a dazzling room fit for the celebration of a lifetime.
Another exciting element to the day was the largest wedding party we’ve ever photographed! Excluding the happy couple, there were thirty-two people in the wedding party, and the group photos ended up being some of my favorites from this wedding. Not only was this crew great to work with, they were ready to throw down on the dance floor. Watching them lift the bride and groom for some serious dance floor fun was a real treat.
Having a winter wedding can be limiting for having natural light for outdoor portraits, so timelines tend to start earlier in the day. Personally, I love an opportunity for some night portraits, and Dorothy and William delivered some perfectly romantic outdoor night moments for us to capture. Earlier in the day, bridesmaids were prepared to face the cold with their coordinated ivory shawls. Needless to say, nobody let weather or early sunset limit the celebration.
This grand exit was one of my favorites. The bride, groom, most of the wedding party, as well as family friends were all Alabama football fans, and this wedding happened to fall two nights before Alabama played against Clemson for the NCAA national championship. The energy was palpable as the crowd cheered “Roll Tide!” and feverishly waved red and white pom poms. It was the ideal way to end such a vibrant day!
