It’s the best view of Richmond in town! This adventurous family trekked over to Belle Isle with me for their scenic sunset family session. The light was perfect and so were the smiles! Once the girls started playing and giggling together, my heart had completely melted. I’ve been photographing them since they were born, so it’s such a treat to see them growing and letting their personalities shine.

You can feel the love when you look at this scenic sunset family session. From holding hands walking across the bridge to playing in the dirt together, there’s a lot of love. Big sister was looking out for little sis, guiding and giving directions. And the love is not limited to siblings. We’ve been family friends for a long time now, for me since I moved to Richmond, and for Paul since elementary school! Chris and JoBeth are really authentic people, showing genuine compassion and love for those around them and each other.

The beauty of a family session is capturing natural interaction and remembering a moment in time, with its joyous imperfections. While it’s great to have a posed family portrait with everyone looking at the camera, it’s also wonderful to make sessions a relaxed experience, where children can run, play and be themselves. Yes, it leads to some silly faces and piggy back rides, but isn’t that what life should be anyway? I think we could all use some extra silliness and play time. The magic of childhood is short. Let’s let it last a little longer, even if it’s just in the reflection of an image from a time long gone.
